The Fratelli Borgioli shoe factory was born from an artisan workshop in the heart of the Florentine countryside. Since 1946 it has been making shoes of the highest quality for brands of the calibre of Manolo Blahnik. With the style and formal perfection of its creations it keeps the passion for Italian taste alive in the world, thanks to a network of selected retailers who believe in beauty and quality.
Improved quality performance and warehouse management by location
Thanks to the collaborations with the big names on the fashion scene, who entrust the shoe factory with the realisation of the most important collections, Fratelli Borgioli quickly arrives at dedicating 85% of its production to brands. The growing number of collaborations with the world of luxury stimulated the company to embark on an articulated digitalisation process, to better manage the increase in orders, material requirements, even higher quality standards and tighter deadlines. Fratelli Borgioli’s goal was therefore to digitise some key business areas and processes.
With the quality control software, they wanted to achieve an improvement in quality performance and efficiency in quality management, while simultaneously keeping track of the performance of suppliers and external processors.
The implementation of Gea WMS and warehouse management by location was aimed at speeding up and facilitating the material preparation process, while also optimising the inventory phase.
Computerised Quality Control
Fratelli Borgioli relies on Gea Soft in the management of quality control, at special workstations equipped with monitors where control officers are guided in their checks by specific checklists per product family and per processing phase. Even the semi-finished products returned by the external processors are checked, and the non-conformities detected are recorded within the software, and then processed into reports showing the quality performance of the employees. In addition, Gea Quality creates a valuable history of detected non-conformities, which allows learning from mistakes, resulting in continuous improvement, season after season.
Thanks to Gea Quality’s quality performance history, I can say with certainty, for example, that 30 per cent of the non-conformities found on external workers are the same as last month. This way we identify problems and take action to solve them in a targeted manner.

More efficient warehouse with Gea WMS
With Gea WMS, Fratelli Borgioli has been able to reorganise its warehouse by location, where each location is marked with a barcode label. In this way, materials are easy to find and the company saves valuable time and resources.
With Gea WMS, warehouse activities are made easier in the preparation of materials, because it directly displays the requirement with the corresponding location. In addition, the name of the article is now objective, there is no longer the confusion regarding different names that wasted time in production.
